In vitro propagation of plants
Within this research line we develop plant propagation methods for wild endangered species medicinal plants and crops. This allows the large-scale propagation of healthy plants under controlled conditions and independently of seasonal variations.
Germplasm conservationLife on earth is dependent on plants, which are a crucial component of all ecosystems. Not only they are the basis of world food, but also can provide us fuel, clothes and medicine and play a major role in atmosphere and water purification and prevention of soil erosion. Plants are part of our natural heritage and it is our responsibility to preserve and protect them for future generations.
Chemical and biological characterization of wild plants and agrifood products
Within this research line we make the chemical and biological characterization of samples from wild plants and agrifood products from the Mediterranean region (medicinal plants, wild edible plants with nutraceutical value, and beverages) using different analytical techniques and in vitro bioactivity assays.
Biopolymers and Surfactant Systems
Our main goal is to study colloidal polymer-surfactant systems in order to contribute to the development of new advanced materials with particular focus to lignocellulose biomass. The research covers different aspects of colloidal science and supramolecular chemistry from fundamentals to state-of-the-art applications.
